Why Pressure Washing Is the Best Spring Home Investment

    1 min readApril 22, 2025

After a Canadian winter, the exterior of most homes is coated with a season's worth of road salt spray, mould and mildew growth, organic material, and general grime. Pressure washing removes all of it in a fraction of the time and cost of any other cleaning method. It pairs naturally with a cottage opening inspection or as the first step in any seasonal property maintenance schedule.

Beyond Aesthetics: What You're Actually Removing

The green and black discolouration on siding, decks, driveways, and walkways isn't just dirt — it's biological growth. Algae, mould, and mildew hold moisture against surfaces, accelerating rot in wood and deterioration in painted surfaces. Removing it each year significantly extends the service life of exterior materials.

Road salt is corrosive and accumulates along foundations, driveways, and low sections of siding. A thorough rinse in spring removes it before it continues working on concrete, masonry, and metal fasteners over the summer.

    What Pressure Washing Covers

Virtually every hard exterior surface benefits: vinyl, wood, and composite siding; concrete and brick driveways and walkways; decks and fences; garage doors and eavestroughs; and foundation walls. For surfaces scheduled for painting or staining, pressure washing isn't optional — it's the only way to ensure proper adhesion.

Soft washing (lower pressure with cleaning solution) is the right approach for painted wood, older masonry, and roofing materials. High pressure on these surfaces can cause damage. A skilled operator adjusts pressure and technique by surface type.
